• Australasian Safari: 1 - 8 Aug 2009

  More than 100 of the world's best off-road four-wheel drive, motorbike and quad bike competitors will begin the 22nd annual Australasian Safari in Perth. Considered the Paris to Dakar of the Asia Pacific region, the event is renowned as one of the toughest and most challenging motoring events in the world Covering over 4'000 km, over seven days, the gruelling off-road rally event will travel across the Western Australian outback from the coastal shores of Perth, through the Midwest and finishing in Kalgoorlie. The event comprises of three competition categories – Auto, Moto and Quad. Four-wheel drive and motike enthusiasts can follow the safari and experience the exhilaration of competitive off-road rallying or competition pressures by joining the fully-guided adventure tour component of the event. The Adventure Tour Auto and the Adventure Tour Moto are a great way to be part of the event, meet the teams, see some great Safari action and explore the amazing sights of Western Australia.

• Sun Herald City To Surf: 9 Aug 2009

  Come take part in Australia's most prestigious road race! This year marks the 38th running of the Sun-Herald City to Surf. Held on the second Sunday of August each year, it sees more than 60,000 people compete in the world's largest fun run. Starting at Hyde Park the 14 kilometre fun run winds its way ugh the city's Eastern Suburbs to the finishing line at Bondi Beach. After the race you can soak up the atmosphere at any number of street caf?s or meet your retrieval drivers and have a picnic on beautiful Bondi Beach. • Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week: 13 - 20 Aug 2009

  A multi-million dollar boost for the community is expected when sailors and partygoers from all over Australia descend on Airlie Beach for what promises to be an entertainment extravaganza. Abel Point Marina will once again be hosting Airlie Beach Race Week. This year's race will be the best yet with changes to the racing course, improved facilities at Abel Point marina and exciting social events. One of the highlights of the week-long party will be the AUD30,000 Fantasea Cracker Night fireworks display on the Friday night. The Abel Point Marina will be the center of activities for the regatta with the marina buzzing with activity as the fleet takes over. • Audi Hamilton Island Race Week: 22 - 29 Aug 2009

  Audi Race Week is a world class yachting regatta which attracts competitors from across Australia and the world. A premiere event, it has been running for 26 years and each year improves and grows into a fantastic spectacle on and off the water. A record fleet this year ensured that the Island saw some of the best racing. The perfect weather conditions of sunny days with plenty of wind helped propel the event and showcase the beautiful Whitsundays. Off the water they will again have the Moet and Chandon Luncheon, Ladies Lunch and Sponsored Dinners, their lay day activities and of course the Audi Drive Challenge.
  
  
  
  
  

• ASSA ABLOY Henley-On-Todd Regatta: 22 Aug 2009

  A boat race with a unique difference - on the dry sands of the Todd River. The ASSA ABLOY Henley-On-Todd Regatta is a day of fun where teams and individuals race ‘boats', in the dry bed of the Todd River in outback Alice Springs. Have fun and enjoy the hilarity as you watch seemingly sane people race intomless 'eights', 'oxford tubs', 'bath tubs' and 'yachts' through the deep coarse sand. The event has its origins in 1962, when Reg Smith, an Alice Springs local, and his work colleagues proposed holding a regatta based on the famous Henley-on-Thames, a race between Cambridge and Oxford Universities. The idea was taken up by the Rotary Clubs of Alice Springs and the fact that the town was 1,500 kilometres from the nearest large body of water was never seen as a problem. So the ASSA ABLOY Henley-On-Todd was born. Food and drink stalls are available, with all proceeds going to the three local Rotary clubs in Alice Springs, and ultimately back to the Alice Springs Community.
  
  
  
  
  

• Santos Opening Concert: 13 Aug 2009

  Sit back and be immerse yourself in a cultural mixture of indigenous and non-indigenous music. The annual free Santos Opening Concert is part of the Darwin Festival and is one of the most awaited events of the festival. This is a huge night of music, featuring some of the Territory's best talent, and somef Australia's finest indigenous musicians. Guest artists this year are Troy Cassar-Daley, the Garrangali Band, The Neo and Lorrae Coffin. This is an event for locals and visitors, young and old. • Walking with Spirits: 1 - 2 Aug 2009
  Venue: Malkgulumbu / Beswick Falls, Central Arnhem Road, Katherine, Northern Territory, 0850
  
  Walking with Spirits is presented by Djilpin Arts in partnership with the Australian Shakespeare Company. It is an annual celebration of the Beswick Community's culture and heritage, featuring traditional corroborees from several Arnhem Land languages. Malkgulumbu (Beswick Falls), with its picturesque lake and cliffs, provides the perfect natural setting for the show. Visitors are invited to camp for the weekend in this spectacular lakeside setting, open to the general public only once a year for this event. To reach Beswick Falls, travel the Stuart Highway to 51 kilometres south of Katherine. Turn left into Central Arnhem Road (Barunga turnoff). Drive 56 kilometres to the Beswick Community, the road to the falls from the community will be signposted. The last stretch is unsealed, so a four-wheel drive vehicle is advised or shuttle transport is available. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
  
  
  
  
  
  

• Tennant Creek Cup: 15 Aug 2009

  Join in the fun of traditional outback horse racing. The Tennant Creek Cup is a traditional bush race meeting with a five card program. There is a TAB and on course bookmakers, a fully catered licensed bar, 'Fashion of the Field' event and live entertainment.
